In partnership with Black Box, the Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk) has transformed their lecture halls and classrooms into true collaborative spaces. The University implemented modern wireless presentation technology from Black Box which provided faculty and students with a user-friendly solution that fosters collaborative learning. Renowned Oulu University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in northern Finland, providing bachelor and master degree studies, pedagogic studies, as well as virtual open university studies.
To provide a truly collaborative environment for their students, Oulu University wanted to implement a unified, easy-to-deploy and user-friendly presentation system in various classrooms, auditoria and conference rooms across four campuses. They chose the Coalesce™ All-in-One Videoconferencing and Wireless Presentation System
from Black Box because it featured a user-friendly interface that fostered true active learning and wireless connectivity. Additionally, they decided on the system because it was easy to install in a variety of environments and the hardware was small and didn’t clutter meeting spaces.
With Coalesce deployed, the University now benefits from optimized small group interaction and increased collaboration between students and lecturers. Coalesce also allows students and teachers to use their own devices to present, facilitating fast sharing of presentations, video and files and a new level of interactivity and group learning.
“Collaborative learning and support for BYOD have been considered for quite some time. With interactive technology becoming more and more important in the classroom, Coalesce finally enabled us to take the next step towards a more engaging and successful learning environment,” said Jori Löytynoja, Oamk’s IT customer service manager.
The other reasons the University chose Coalesce were the system’s capability to extend room utilization outside of scheduled lecture times and its ability to connect additional areas for informal collaboration and project work. They also liked that Coalesce let users share presentations by simply downloading the Coalesce app on any compatible device. No longer do students and faculty have to connect and fuddle with legacy AV cables and USB flash drives to present.
Coalesce also reduced the amount of IT administration troubleshooting requests. Oamk’s IT department doesn’t have to worry about on-site repairs, broken/missing cables and adapters any longer.
Oamk is very happy with Coalesce and how it has increased collaboration between students and faculty. They are looking forward to taking advantage of Coalesce’s powerful video conferencing and wireless presentation capabilities for a long time.
Oamk has also used Black Box technology for various AV projects in the past, among them a wireless presentation solution for their finance department. After a pilot installation project in 10 classrooms, the University was satisfied enough to extend the
solution to 40 more rooms across the campus.
