Company Fire Agency

BACKGROUND

A Fire Agency consolidated operations into a new 10-floor headquarters with a centralized data center, distributed server rooms, and a basement UPS room. The agency required centralized real-time monitoring of power, UPS, environmental, fire, and security systems while maintaining uninterrupted operations during migration. To reduce costs, existing UPS, fire protection, and security infrastructure needed to be retained.

CHALLENGE

Black Box had to deliver centralized visibility across 10 floors with zero downtime during phased migration, while integrating legacy systems, minimizing cabling complexity, and meeting strict security compliance requirements.

SOLUTION

Black Box deployed a phased AlertWerks remote monitoring solution supporting more than 600 monitoring points, including:

  • AlertWerks centralized monitoring platform
  • EME144A-R2 network sensor hubs/gateways
  • Environmental sensors for temperature, humidity, and water leaks
  • SNMP integration for UPS and PDC systems
  • Integration with existing fire, security, and IP camera systems

A distributed architecture eliminated costly vertical cabling while enabling centralized monitoring across the facility. Black Box implemented a two-phase deployment, first installing environmental monitoring and sensor hubs, then progressively integrating legacy systems to ensure zero operational downtime.

RESULTS

The completed solution provided centralized, real-time visibility across all 10 floors, improving operational efficiency, scalability, and incident response. By retaining existing infrastructure and reducing cabling requirements, Black Box helped lower capital costs while meeting strict government security and vulnerability compliance standards.
