A government institution responsible for people’s safety and transport mobility had multiple control rooms in multiple locations. They needed to monitor and manage their system by following different tasks by different operator groups (Road Traffic Control, Public Transportation Control, Traffic Order Control, and CPC Security Camera Control). Collaboration was difficult before as only one console or one more detailed login could connect only to one control system out of five. Creating large video walls for info sharing and access to the video wall for better collaboration were important to the end user.
Black Box recommended a complete control and visualization system powered by Emerald® IP KVM. It enabled the end user to interconnect multiple control systems and control rooms.
All teams have access and line-of-sight to a large amount of screens (200 in the master control room/20 to 50 in the side control rooms). The end user managed the visibility by installing glass bottoms over three floors and located the screens on the sides on the top floor.
Emerald with DESKVUE was the best economic solution for them, because they could execute intensive control and monitoring equipment with less equipment compared to other solutions.
With the multisource/multiview feature of DESKVUE, new workflows could be implemented that ensure a single operator can process more data compared to the old dual monitor setups, optimizing employees’ productivity inside the control rooms.
DESKVUE was again a game changer. Collaboration is now easy since the end user now has one login to get authorized access to all connected systems. With less logins to manage, users save time, too, since there is no time-consuming login/out to the different systems. Emerald’s seamless connectivity allows each operator to monitor and control a complex mix of legacy hardware and new hardware, and virtual machines, with less equipment.
The end user was pleased with the support they received. They joined onsite visits with Black Box, integrators, control room designers, and end users. Onsite demos presented proof of concept with modifications and deployment details.
The close cooperation between all involved partners, onsite surveys, and our PoC revisions followed by multiple onsite demos resulted in the perfect operator workspace powered by Emerald.
With this new setup, the end user can execute their tasks with confidence. They trust the solution and are currently working to expand the concept to their regional rail traffic and safety groups.
