Black Box's Ron Beckman Named CIO of the Year by Pittsburgh Technology Council

PITTSBURGH, April 30, 2018 - Black Box Corporation, the trusted digital partner at the intelligent edge, today announced that its CIO, Ron Beckman, was named 2018 CIO of the Year by the Pittsburgh Technology Council and the Greater Pittsburgh CIO Group.

The announcement was made Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the annual Pittsburgh Technology's Council's (PTC) Tech All Stars awards at the Westin Convention Center Hotel. Every year, the PTC and the Greater Pittsburgh CIO group gather to honor the region's top information technology executives. Mr. Beckman was one of five finalists in the Gigabyte category for organizations with 1,001 to 10,000 employees.

Mr. Beckman, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, joined Black Box in 2016 and is responsible for the company's global strategy for data operations, business applications support and cyber security. Mr. Beckman's strategic vision has made a tremendous impact on Black Box's ability to transform its IT capabilities and the business itself.

"Ron has provided exceptional leadership in modernizing our infrastructure and enabling our One Black Box initiative. I am very pleased to see this recognition of his accomplishments from the Pittsburgh IT community," said Joel Trammell, President and CEO of Black Box.

As a technology company, Black Box views IT as an organization that should create value both internally and externally. Mr. Beckman sums up the IT strategy at Black Box with the phrase: "Make the car go faster." This is intended to communicate that IT is not just a provider of tools, but a partner with the business to increase organizational productivity and customer engagement. By aligning IT along functional lines and moving the interaction, in some cases to the end customers, Mr. Beckman has created a proactive problem-solving culture.

"It is a great honor to receive this award," said Mr. Beckman. "But, in my opinion, this is a team award and all the credit should go to them. The team came up with innovative ways to work closer to the business, increase organizational productivity and to get more done 'faster.' It's been very exciting to be part of this team."

"Pittsburgh is home to some of the brightest tech minds in the world leading technology strategies across companies of all sizes and industries," said Audrey Russo, President and CEO of the PTC. "It is important to take a night to celebrate their accomplishments, innovation and leadership. Congratulations to the finalists and winners. These executives work tirelessly to ensure that information assets and technologies are adequately protected."

Mr. Beckman has more than 30 years of experience in IT and has held positions at RTI International Metals and Covestro. He is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and holds certifications as a Six Sigma Black Belt and APICS Supply Chain Professional.
