Further Details
On-line management makes it easy to start small and add users to your enterprise network as you grow.
Platform’s policy-based management simplifies large deployments encompassing many sites and offices.
Manage it from anywhere. No hardware device to install, configure, upgrade, or patch.
Lowers operating costs by speeding configuration and monitoring of your entire network.
Can be configured in minutes. Access points automatically contact the network manager.
Use to set up access enforced by per-user policies and role-based guest management delegation with SLAs.
Group policies can be applied network wide to all access points or individually to certain access points.
Integrated Wi-Fi planner tool helps you design a network with optimum access point placement.
Boasts full 802.1X authentication for secure network access and fast roaming between access points.
Also supports RADIUS with Active Directory, LDAP, Open Directory, and eDirectory integration.
Hosted within secure Tier IV SAS 70 Type II data centers to ensure availability.
System uses cooperative control protocols. No expensive LAN controllers required.
The Black Box SmartPath Enterprise Wireless System combines the stability, security, speed of a wired network with the versatility and adaptability of a wireless network.
The system combines a distributed WLAN architecture and best-in-class management without large upfront or operating expenses. It uses less hardware and less cabling than similar solutions and can be implemented easily and expanded to meet the needs of your growing enterprise.
Unlike ordinary wireless, in which access points function as accessories to the wired network, SmartPath is designed as an equal partner to the wired network, making it a practical, smart way to provide wireless at the enterprise level. Multiple SmartPath Enterprise Wireless Access Points work together to provide seamless, efficient throughput to end devices.
The SmartPath Enterprise Wireless System is ideal for:
• Distributed enterprise applications
• Healthcare
• Manufacturing
• Retail
• Education
• Or anywhere you need a secure, high-performance, easy-to-manage WLAN communications.
The SmartPath Enterprise Management System (EMS), Cloud-Based, 3-Year License per Access Point (featured here) gives you a 3-year SaaS license for one SmartPath Enterprise Wireless Access Point (LWN602A/LWN602AE, LWN602HA/LWN602HAE) in your network.
Accessible via a Web browser in Windows®, Linux®, or Mac® OS X systems, the EMS platform gives you an application-like AJAX interface with which to control access to your enterprise wireless network.
Because it’s a Web-based platform, it’s particularly useful in industrial networks where you prefer remote management access capabilities instead of a management console stationed in harsh areas.
Once plugged in, each SmartPath Enterprise Wireless System Access Point automatically joins the network and contacts the EMS using the secure CAPWAP-DTLS protocol across NAT and firewalls. Configuration data is then pushed from the EMS to the newly installed access points for true plug-and-play installation.
This platform enables you to manage the entire wireless system from a single, user-friendly GUI console. This interface features a customizable dashboard and gives you advanced functionality without unnecessary complexity. Use it for monitoring, upgrades, troubleshooting, and more.
For complete network visualization, network maps enable you to see topology and status of access points and real-time heat maps show RF propagation within your enterprise. The EMS detects both authorized WLAN clients and rogue access points, and places them on a map.
Screens also feature details related to SLA compliance and statistics for reporting purposes. Configuration audit capabilities ensure that all configurations are up to date, and you can set up real-time monitoring of alarms and events from all access points.
Group policy functions automatically create wireless profiles for your users and whenever a new laptop joins the domain, wireless access is available in minutes. Even better, users can roam to any other site of yours that has SmartPath Enterprise Wireless Access Points and open their laptops, and it’s as if they never left their home office. It’s that automatic.
You also use the EMS GUI to configure Active Directory for per-user policy enforcement. Supporting up to 64 policy configurations per an SSID, the system enables you to set up wireless network access by user. Keep data secure by giving guests access to the Internet while allowing only employees to connect to your entire enterprise network.
You can even set it up so any authorized employee can create guest network accounts via the EMS system’s intuitive Web interface—a real time-saver for administrators who are tasked with creating guest accounts on a frequent basis.
What’s more, the SmartPath EMS provides centralized control without being actively involved in passing traffic or making forwarding decisions. The combination of autonomous access points with centrally based management provides maximum administrative control without creating the traffic bottlenecks seen in some controller-based wireless solutions.
Plus, your network data is private and secure, and none of your traffic traverses the hosted service’s network. In addition, the service is hosted within secure Tier IV SAS 70 Type II data centers, with scheduled backups and disaster recovery capabilities and 24/7 monitoring.
Also available: A 1-year license for one access point (LWN600CM-1). Or, for larger wireless networks, you may find it more cost effective to purchase the SmartPath Enterprise Management System (EMS), Appliance (LWN600MA). It supports up to 2000 access points and is typically mounted in the data center. Unlike the cloud-based service, which requires you to purchase a 1- or 3-year license for each access point, each single access point license (LWN600MLA-1) you purchase for the appliance is perpetual.
