Here's the ServSwitch™ KVM switching system that gives multiple users simultaneuos access to PC platform servers over CAT5 cable.

The BLACK BOX® ServSwitch Summit™ is a scalable, modular system with plug-and-play components, making it easy to deploy in enterprise-level applications. With the Summit (KV1503A), you can put more than 1000 servers up to 500 feet (152.4 m) apart for access by up to 16 users. No special cables are required, so there are no bulky cables to crowd your server room further. You may even be able to use the UTP cable that’s already installed in your building.

The ServSwitch Summit system, designed especially for use in high-density server environments, is particularly well-suited for corporate data centers, server farms, Web hosting facilities, and test labs.

As with Black Box’s other ServSwitch solutions, the ServSwitch Summit enables you to save on the amount of keyboards, monitors, and mice you need for CPU access. That means a lower total cost of equipment ownership and a less complex setup. With the ServSwitch Summit, you get scalable, efficient server management and a reliable system!

The center of it all: the Base Unit.
This switching unit serves as the system’s intelligent, nonblocking control center. You can cascade it to provide connections to additional servers. Choose from four Base Unit systems, all of which are easy to rackmount.

The KV1500A–KV1502A provide standalone solutions for applications requiring eight or fewer users, and they provide economical scalability for high-density server racks.

The 16 x 64 model (KV1503A) goes even further. It’s scalable to more than 1000 servers for as many as 16 users. This high port density makes it the ideal system for Internet service providers (ISPs) and application service providers (ASPs) who require easy expansion to meet future demands.

Easy to set up.
By offering plug-and-play autoconfiguration features, the ServSwitch Summit makes it easy to set up a flexible, manageable KVM switching system. Make CAT5 connections between components within the system, then name servers and configure user profiles and system security through the console attached to the Base Unit. Configuration information is stored in a Base Unit database, and the serial port is used for flash upgrades to the system’s firmware.

What’s more, you have a wide range of security options for restricting user access to the ServSwitch Summit system. You can assign each user access rights to all, specific groups, or even individual computers.

The ServSwitch Summit has three modes of operation:
• Private Mode, in which server access is restricted to one user at a time.
• Public View, which enables one user to view the monitor of a second user while the second user accesses a server.
• PC Share Mode, in which a server can be accessed by more than one user (although only one user can be in control at any one time).

Whatever the mode, your system’s authorized users can access connected servers—seamlessly and transparently—via an intuitive on-screen user interface either by name or channel ID using simple pop-up menus or hot-key commands.
