ServSwitch DKM is a scalable matrix switch that supports DVI-D and transmits USB Human Interface Device (HID), stereo audio, and RS-232 signals.
Extend KVM signals up to 460 feet (140 m) over CATx, up to 400 meters (1312.3 ft.) over multimode fiber, or up to 10 kilometers (6.2 mi.) over single-mode fiber.

Certain modes of the single-head KVM switching support a transparent serial interface at up to 19 kbps and hardware handshaking. Use it to control a single device requiring a full hardware handshaking or up to three devices without handshaking. In dual-head mode, devices support TxD and RxD only, with no hardware handshaking.

The ServSwitch DKM features hotkey controls and an on-screen display (OSD). Use the OSD to name connected devices and configure the system. A front-panel display with remote control is also available. Switching can be done remotely via the RS-232 serial interface or the TCP/IP interface.

For ultimate plug-and-play support, ServSwitch DKM has DDC read capability to receive true EDID information from the attached displays. The digital ServSwitch DKM does not need skew compensation like analog KVM switches do; the maximum video resolution is supported over the full distance.

Setup and Operation Modes
You can configure the ServSwitch DKM DVI-D KVM Switch in several ways. Connect the switch to CATx or fiber cabling, which then connects to the CPU/server with a local transmitter and, on the other side, connects to a receiver at the USB keyboard/mouse/monitors (user stations).

Matrix (crosspoint) switching
The DKM switch can be configured as 16 input to 8 output ports. Transmitters are installed at each of the CPUs, and DVI-D, serial, and audio signals go up to 10 kilometers (62 mi.) depending on the cabling used. Control the switch with the serial (RS-232) port or via the built-in Web interface. The matrix switch mode is especially ideal for post-production and digital signage applications.

KVM switch
The 8-by-16 DKM switch operates as a KVM switch in three configurations: 8 users to 16 CPUs (single-head); 4 users to 8 CPUs (dual-head); and 2 users to 4 CPUs (quad-head). When used as a KVM switch, the DKM is cascadable: single-head, up to 1024 ports from one monitor; dual-head, up to 256 ports from two monitors; quad-head, up to 64 ports from four monitors.

Share Mode
Share Mode enables more than one user to have access to the same CPU at the same time. This is ideal in classrooms or conference rooms where an instructor or a presenter wants to use a laptop and a projector. It also gives an IT administrator access to a user’s monitor for troubleshooting or applying updates.

Additionally, the KVM switch enables port locking, meaning you can partner ports and ensure they switch in tandem. This way, when you switch CPUs, monitors being used in Share Mode follow automatically.

Control Room Mode
You can connect the KVM switch to servers and monitors. The OSD enables the user to switch monitors between CPUs, and the hotkeys enable the user to switch between one keyboard/mouse for all the monitors.

You can select from the list of available CPUs, and the users don’t need to know the CPU’s IP address to use the keyboard/mouse. Users can use Share Mode in this configuration also, giving access to more than one user at the same time.

Student/Teacher System
One of the modes that truly sets DKM above the rest, the Student/Teacher system has two configurations:

Up to 7 students: By connecting the student workstations with twisted-pair CATx cable, the teacher can monitor each student’s work at his/her station. Additionally, the teacher can display to any of the student monitors, or share any of the workstation monitors with each CPU.

In this configuration, too, the teacher can monitor each student at his/her station.
