With the BLACK BOX® Video and Audio over Ethernet Extender System, you can avoid running expensive dedicated links from a back room to digital signage in lobbies or other public areas.

That’s because the versatile system uses an existing CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6 network infrastructure to transmit video and audio streams to one or more displays located up to 300 feet (91.4 m) away. Want to go farther? Just add standard network switches to the system.

Distributing HD content for HD displays, the system transmits broadcast-quality video without amplifiers or expensive wiring. It supports 480p, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p resolutions, no matter what the distance or the number of displays.

And because the extender system simulcasts video and audio synchronously, there’s no lag from the first display to the last.

The transmitters
Two types of transmitters are available. The transmitter featured here is our PCI/PCI-e card version. But we also offer a standalone version (see “Related Items”). Both versions packetize digital video and audio input for distribution over CATx cabling.

Simply plug in the DVI-D cable (or HDMI adapter cable) from a graphics adapter or other source, then connect an audio source, and you’re ready to stream movie files and presentations across your LAN to one or more remote displays. The system supports six independent HD channels, so you can simulcast multiple channels over one CATx link.

The receiver
You’ll, of course, need a receiver for the other end of the link (to order, see “Related Items”). Plug the receiver into any network port on the dedicated LAN to convert Ethernet packets sent from the transmitter back to synchronized video for display.

No software is required for the conversion, and it works with any brand of single-link DVI or HDTV display.

Plus, it works as a true Gigabit Ethernet switch, so you can connect multiple devices, including IP cameras or NAS components, through its three 10-/100-/1000-Mbps ports.

For a multiple-display setup or a digital signage network with screens in different areas, just daisychain multiple receiver units via the CATx ports.

The content distribution software
For easy control of your entire digital signage network, the transmitter comes with content distribution and display management software.

It enables you to not only upload and stream content from a digital media source to any display, but also to perform diagnostics on the transmitter and receiver from the host PC, as well as log all system activity.

Through the software’s easy-to-use GUI, you can instantly publish and update content on displays, as well as assign content distribution schedules to a transmitter or receiver or narrowcast live camera feeds to digital signage presentations.

If necessary, you can also interrupt scheduled content to broadcast an emergency announcement or ad-hoc messaging. It’s that versatile.
